Data Visualization and Custom Columns
Valid8 provides two types of classification tools within the Bank Transactions window: Data Visualization (Data Viz) columns and Custom Columns. Data Viz columns use AI-generated categories to group and visualize inflows and outflows, while Custom Columns allow you to create your own transaction labels for manual classification. Together, these tools provide flexible options for drilling into specific money streams within an engagement.
Before You Begin
Have the following ready before starting:
- AI categorization should be run before using Data Viz columns for best results
Steps
- From the process map, click the Bank Transactions tile.
- On the left-hand side of the screen, locate the Data Viz and Custom Columns dropdown menus.
- To use the V8 Default Main visualization column: select its checkbox and click Apply. This column contains 16 high-level AI categories such as Income, Loan Payments, Entertainment, and General Services.
- Click the Visualizations tab to see all inflows and outflows grouped by the selected categories.
- To filter the visualization to specific categories, select only the desired checkboxes in the left-hand filter panel and click Apply. The view updates to show only those categories.
- To use the V8 Default Sub column: select it from the Data Viz dropdown. This column contains up to 104 sub-categories, providing a more granular view within the main categories. Select and deselect sub-categories as needed.
- Click the Transactions tab to return to the transactions list.
- To create a Custom Column: click the Custom Column button, enter a column name, click Add, then click Save. The system supports up to 9 custom columns.
- Select the checkboxes next to the transactions you want to label, then click the Apply Labels icon.
- In the categorization window, select the custom label you created, then click Save. A confirmation notification will appear.
Tips & Common Questions
- V8 Default Main = 16 categories, V8 Default Sub = 104 categories. Start with Main for a high-level overview, then drill into Sub for more granular analysis.
- Valid8 supports up to 3 Data Viz columns and up to 9 Custom Columns. Plan your classification structure before creating columns to make the most of these limits.
- Custom Columns do not use AI — they are manually applied. Use them for case-specific classification needs that the AI categories do not cover, such as property-specific groupings.
- Filters apply at export time. If you plan to export after categorizing, ensure your filters are set correctly before running the export.
