Bank Statements FAQ
Common questions related to the loading and processing of Bank Statements
Are protected PDF Files supported?
No, Valid8 is not able to support statement PDF files that are password protected.
Do you support landscape and portrait orientation for bank statements?
Yes, the system handles bank statements loaded in either format. In fact, it supports documents that change between orientation mid document.
Do you support bank statements that have been written on, or redacted?
Yes, these can be loaded into the system. If the extraction process is unable to read key data (like beginning and ending statement balances or dates, or transaction details) our reconciliation process allows you to manually correct what the process can not read.
What happens if I load check images as part of the Bank Statements upload? Will these be processed?
No, if you want check images to be processed the file has to be separately loaded as Check Images (PDF). Non-bank statement pages, like advertising pages, or check images will be ignored when bank statement processing is performed.
Will uploading in smaller batches be faster?
No meaningful difference. Total processing time tracks the volume of pages and transactions, not how you divide them across batches.
Can the 100 MB limit be raised for a large production?
Not self-service. If you have a production where most files exceed 100 MB, contact support before you start so we can plan the ingestion with you.
Does Valid8 automatically discard duplicate statements?
No. Valid8 does not filter duplicates out. If you upload the same statement period twice, it will be processed twice. Complete file duplicates will be rejected.
What's the right way to handle an overlapping batch of statements?
Manually split the PDF so it contains only the new data, and split on full statement period boundaries — never split in the middle of a statement period. This keeps your transaction count, and therefore your charges, as low as possible.
I have overlapping data at a date boundary. Should I trim the statement?
Upload the complete statement period, but remove periods you've already loaded. For example, if your existing data ends 10/28 mid-October, upload the full October statement only if October was never loaded. Don't partially redact a statement period to remove already-loaded transactions — the statement won't reconcile.
Will duplicate uploads consume credits/VPUs?
Charges are based on transactions processed, so avoiding duplicate uploads avoids duplicate charges. If you're unsure whether a batch overlaps with what's already loaded, ask support to check before you upload rather than after.
Can I pause an upload that's already in progress?
Not self-service. Contact support immediately with the engagement name if you need an in-flight ingestion halted.
How do credit card statements work?
Set the account up as a credit card account type. This inverts the transaction signs correctly, since credit card activity runs opposite to bank activity.
I uploaded statements as the wrong type. Can I fix it?
Not self-service. Files of the wrong type will be rejected, so just reupload the files again with the correct typing.
Will Valid8 split a consolidated statement into separate accounts?
Generally yes — Valid8 breaks out each account within a consolidated statement, provided each account has its own summary and associated activity in the document.
My PDF has statements from multiple accounts stitched together out of order
Non-chronological ordering within a single account is generally handled, but send a small sample first if the document is large.
My statement covers both checking and savings. Do I upload it twice?
Upload once. Valid8 will identify both accounts from the consolidated statement and you assign them during or after processing. You only need a second upload if you also want check images processed.
Can I target only one sub-account and skip the others?
Not at the upload stage. Upload the statement and assign only the sub-account you need, leaving the others unassigned — or pre-split the PDF to include only the relevant pages if you want to avoid processing the rest.
Should I test before uploading a large batch?
Yes — especially with scanned, low-quality, or unusual statements. Upload one small statement as a sample and review the results before committing a large tranche.
Will Valid8 read scanned statements?
Yes, but accuracy depends on scan quality. With poor scans some digits may be misread, which typically surfaces as unreconciled statements. Sample first.
Do watermarks affect processing?
Text watermarks such as "CONFIDENTIAL" generally don't prevent processing, but heavy overlays across the transaction area can reduce accuracy. Sample first.
Should I remove disclosure pages, signature cards, and bank correspondence?
You don't have to. Valid8 works from the transaction, date, and balance content and will disregard non-statement pages. Removing them is optional cleanup.
Do not remove numbered pages from within a statement — missing pages cause reconciliation failures. If a statement's first page carries a disclosure that runs onto page 2 with the statement starting mid-page, leave all pages in.
Are non-US and non-English statements supported?
Non-US statements are processed regularly, including non-English statements. Language doesn't materially change processing time. If your engagement's base currency defaults incorrectly, contact support to have it changed rather than working around it.
